lyrics
Christmas In New England
I moved here from Texas, several years ago.
I thought it’d feel more “Christmas,” with all that lovely snow.
What better place to write and sing of holidays we know
Than deep inside the Winter world that lies where it gets cold.
I couldn’t wait for that first dusting, eager all through Fall
Then all at once that cold came rushing through my bedroom wall.
I turned The Weather Channel on, so happy what I saw
A front was moving in and soon we’d see our first snowfall.
But, oh, yes, oh what did I know when that first snowflake flew
It brought a million billion friends and piled up ten by two.
I looked out the next morning and I grabbed my coat and shoes
Found my little shovel and looked forward to a brew…
I shoveled quick and shoveled fast, 10 minutes, no big news
Another 10 or 20 passed and still not much had moved.
I thought I’d have a heart attack before the drive was through
And damnit, don’t you know that we’d see snow again by 2.
It’s Christmas in New England, the snow is falling down
And all the locals think of is getting out of town.
They dream of sunny beaches, the warm sand on the ground
While tucked away, they hibernate til Summer comes around.
I grew up with thunderstorms, tornados, hail and sleet
I never thought I’d see the snow go higher than 5 feet
The dogs can’t go outside to do their business, it’s too deep
What I learned from these Nor’easters is keep a snowblower in reach!
Now if you peek inside a frosty window draped in snow
You’ll see the sight of Christmas in New England you might know
A stove with warm food baking, a candle softly glows
While family, friends and memories bond tight as Winter flows
They make the best of what they’re dealt, regardless of the cold
Telling tales of Summer swells with salty overtones.
The gray and windy ocean down the way seem far from reach
But just a few months more and they’ll be dancing on the beach!
It’s Christmas in New England, the snow is falling down
And all the locals think of is getting out of town
They dream of sunny beachs, the warm sand on the ground
While tucked away they hibernate til Summer comes around.
It’s Christmas in New England (the cold is all around)
It’s Christmas in New England (the snow keeps falling down)
It’s Christmas in New England (the dogs cannot be found)
It’s Christmas in New England (I think I’m getting out of town)
